Things to think about maintenance of windows security film

Posted on

A window security film is a great security tool to protect your windows from breakage and intrusion. It makes the windows much stronger and prevents glass shreds from leaving the window frame if it were to be broken. In order to keep your window security film in top condition, you need to look after it regularly. Just as the window itself, it needs care and cleaning in order to not break prematurely. To maintain your window security film properly, there are a few things you should think about.

Bonding

Right after you've gotten your window security film installed, you need to leave it alone for some time. It has to get a chance to settle to the window and bond properly. Examine the film when you get a chance to and make sure everything looks normal. Bubbles in the film are not a cause of worry, as the microscopic holes in the film will empty such air pockets over time. However, if you notice that a corner or edge of the security film isn't bonding to the window properly, you need to try and get it to stick. If it doesn't, you might want to call the manufacturer and ask for a new film, as the one you got most likely is faulty.

Water

Wait until after all air bubbles have disappeared from the film before you attempt to clean it. Cleaning it before it has had a chance to properly stick to the window can cause water to gather between the film and the window and make it come off. You should also avoid using too much water when you're cleaning the film for the same reason. Avoid using a hose, and instead opt for a soft, damp cloth that is unlikely to create scratches in the film. If you have water running off the film when you're done, you should also get a dry cloth to wipe the excess water off.

Cleaning products

You can also use cleaning products on your security film to make sure it gets cleaned properly. Avoid abrasive cleaners that can damage the security film. All cleaning products that are ammonia based or made for industrial use are too abrasive for the film to handle and might damage it irrevocably. You should instead use ordinary water mixed with a mild detergent that you use to dampen your cloth with. Also remember to avoid the use of a window scraper, as this too can damage the window security film and cause it to not function as well.
